We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to work ‘hands on’ with delivery teams to produce big data/data warehouse outcomes.
The Role
The uptake of open source big data tools has revolutionised analytics by providing faster, powerful and more agile capabilities to business users compared to traditional approaches to business intelligence and enterprise reporting. Several Government agencies are now using these tools to bring together SMEs, data scientists, and big data and technology services to improve policy thinking and development.
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager who will work with teams to plan and deliver technical and business project outcomes. The resulting benefits will support safe and secure access to tools and data, increased data exchange and sharing, expanded and enhanced data holdings, faster data acquisition, as well as increased self-service.
The ideal person is experienced in both project management and SCRUM.
In this role, your key responsibilities are:
- Delivering big data/data warehouse solutions using project management and agile delivery skills
- Understanding the client’s strategic direction and applying it to project team specific outcomes
- Leading teams to successful project delivery
- Versatility to act as Scrum Master or Project Manager on an ‘as needs’ basis
- Estimating effort at varying levels (e.g. high level, work package level) and using various techniques (e.g. cost per hour, story points)
- Creating and tracking against a project plan or sprint plan
- Proactively managing issues and mitigating risk
- Building client knowledge and credibility quickly
- Identifying potential people-side risks and anticipated points of resistance, and developing specific plans to mitigate and address concerns
The Person
The ideal candidate is an adaptable self-starter who is skilled at creating structure in ambiguous environments. You will have strong logical and analytical problem-solving skills, and have a history of increasing leadership capabilities.
Your success in the role will be ensured by your experience in project management and agile methodology. We are looking for someone with 8+ years’ experience in leading projects and 3+ years’ experience in Agile leadership (Scrum Master/Iteration Manager, Project Manager). You must have experience in cross-team delivery and leading projects consisting of multiple teams.
Industry experience in big data and data warehousing will be highly regarded.
